Felipao's Pop Dogs

Thanks to the blog, many anecdotes have happened to me, one of the best starring Felipao, I'll tell you about it. A long time ago, I wrote a post about Kielh's and to illustrate it, I included a photo of a fake Poppi that I had made for my Consort after falling for one I saw in the In Dietro store. I was so happy with my acknowledged plagiarism and so few people seemed to read me that I even cited the author and, of course, the name of his well-known sculptures. The next day, I received an email in my inbox: "Dear Countess, your Consort deserves better than that vulgar plagiarism; please contact me so we can discuss how to overcome his decadence. Signed, Felipao." Wham! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry with embarrassment, but I immediately became a fan of someone with such a good sense of humor and Google alerts installed.

I don't own a Poppi yet (sadly, becoming an entrepreneur means you can't be a buyer of art) but I have had the good fortune to meet Felipao personally and even visit the studio where each sculpture is born. Poppis are life-sized French bulldogs, each one different from the others, each with its own name and particular story, emerging from the imagination of Felipe, their creator.

Felipe's story is also unique, like my backyard, an executive with a long career in several multinationals, continuous airplane travel, endless meetings, addictions to several mobile phones, and that general profile that we can so easily imagine as successful, one day he decides that his passion for collecting pop art needs to lead him somewhere where he will be happier. Those around him call him crazy when he gives up the security of a fixed salary to learn to paint, sculpt, and mold without a predefined goal; however, the months pass and an idea takes shape in his head. The Poppis and Felipe are born, and he takes a quantum leap (an expression copied from Luis Passage Privé, who also made a leap from auditing to fashion and furniture).

Today, and in less than two years, Poppis can already be found decorating many of the trendiest stores and bars in the capital, and many have decided to adopt one of these peculiar pets to keep them company. You can adopt one already made, order a special custom one, or opt for Felipao's new trend, neon.

As you can see, this man doesn't stop. You have the opportunity to see his creations up close in an exhibition that opens today:
